During a conversation with a girls basketball coach, I asked if they recorded their basketball games. She said they did not. Unfortunately this is a familiar scenario. Many high school coaches do not record or film their games. Here are the disadvantages of not recording games. There is nothing available to evaluate for you to make corrections or adjustments as a coach. And there is nothing visual to show players where they can make corrections or adjustments. Secondly, the players do not have anything to show to a college coach.
Take responsibility for yourself.
Successful people are willing to do what unsuccessful people are not. This means if you have a goal to accomplish something like getting a women's college basketball scholarship. Take responsibility to do whatever is necessary to make sure it happens. Do not rely on someone else to get the job done for you. This includes your coach. Sometimes the coach is not educated on the process of helping a player get a scholarship. Or sometimes there are several players on the team that the coach is helping to get a scholarship. Make sure you do not rely on your coach to do everything for you. Be aware of what's going on.
Film your games
If you know that your coach does not record the games, have a relative or friend to record your game. If your coach does record the games, have a relative or friend to record your game. This way you know that you have a copy of your game. My father taped almost every game of my high school career. I sent tapes out to universities I was interested in playing basketball for. And my dad created a highlight tape of me and we showed it to college coaches when they came to my home on visits. Create an advantage for yourself by having the film displaying your talent and skills.
