Womens Basketball Online Head

Day in the Life:
Louis Suttmann

Name:
Louis Suttmann

Team:
Dayton Flyers

Hometown:
Put-in-Bay, OH

Job Title:
Team Manager

What I do:
I am responsible for making practice run smoothly. This includes: running the clock, score keeping, ball passer, play defense on the team, filming practice, dispensing water/PowerAde, among many other miscellaneous duties. I am also responsible for assisting in the Basketball office throughout the week.

How long I've been doing it:
This is my first full season.

Training/Education:
I am currently working on my degree in Sports Management.

My responsibilities on a "typical" day:
Attend practice. Get everything ready before the team arrives (water bottles, setting-up camera, brining balls out, turning clock on, etc.). I then assist the coaches in making the practice itself fun smoothly.

My responsibilities on a game day:

Biggest challenge:
Time constraint. As a full time student, I find it difficult to juggle both my managerial responsibilities and my team obligations.

Biggest reward:
Being part of a Division I basketball team.

Biggest misconception about this job:
That I am simply a “water boy”. There is so much more that goes on behind the scenes that no one ever sees.

To be most successful at this job...
One needs to be dedicated to the team and be able think on their feet.

Advice I'd give to someone pursuing this career:
Don’t think that it is an easy job. It’s a lot of work, however, it is definitely worth it!

What I love about sports:
Everything. The joy that comes from doing well, being apart of a team, being an example/role model to younger athletes, the competition, EVERYTHING.

When I leave this job I'd like to be able to say that I...
Contributed to an A-10 Championship team.
